Kerstin Borras
CMS experiment at LHC
Kerstin Borras is Lead Scientist at DESY and Professor of Physics at RWTH Aachen. Her research focus is on experimental particle physics. Through experiments at the HERA accelerator at DESY and at the Tevatron at Fermilab in the USA, she investigated various aspects of the Standard Model and, in particular, special features of the strong interaction. In addition to data analysis, another imajor aspect of her work is the development, construction and operation of detectors.
Since the end of HERA operation, she has been conducting research at the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva. Studying the collisions of protons at record energies provides new insights into the fundamental laws of the strong interaction and paves the way towards new discoveries, such as the question of the existence of dark matter and its possible properties. Borras headed the CMS research group at DESY for many years and was deputy spokesperson of the CMS experiment.
