Ulrich Husemann
Director in charge of Particle Physics
Ulrich Husemann is Professor of Experimental Particle Physics and has been Director of DESY’s Particle Physics Division since November 2025.
The appointment as Research Director marks a full circle for Ulrich Husemann: during his diploma and doctoral studies at TU Dortmund University and the University of Siegen, he worked on the HERA-B experiment at DESY. After several years at the CDF experiment at Fermilab in the United States, he was a junior research group leader at DESY in Zeuthen working on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. In 2011, he became Professor at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and member of the CMS collaboration at CERN.
His research focuses on detector development for particle physics and medicine, and on the physics of the top quark and the Higgs boson. He is a member of various committees, including Germany’s representative for the update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics.
